HUBER HEIGHTS — Marissa Norgrove didn’t allow a single run as Wayne’s varsity softball team defeated Springfield 10-0 on Tuesday, May 2. Norgrove allowed just one hit and got Annmeri Turner to hit into a fielder’s choice to end the game.
Makaila Foy collected four hits in four at bats to help lead Wayne to victory. Foy singled in the first, homered in the third, singled in the fourth, and singled in the fifth.
Wayne took an early lead in the first inning. Marissa Philpott drove in one when she doubled in the first inning.
The Lady Warriors scored three runs in the fourth inning.
One bright spot for Springfield was a single by Mckenna Burkhardt in the fourth inning.
Norgrove earned the win by pitching five innings, allowing no runs, one hit, and striking out five. Sierra Williams took the loss for Springfield. She threw three innings, surrendering six runs, eight hits, striking out one, and walking one.
Wayne had 14 hits in the game. Foy, Sam Boyer, Philpott, and Kali Brickman each collected multiple hits for Wayne.
Monday the Lady Warriors also defeated Springfield 11-0.
Wayne improved to 11-10 overall and 6-5 in conference play while Springfield fell to 2-18 and 1-10.
