CENTERVILLE — The Wayne Varsity Bowling teams competed in the sectional tournaments at Poelking South Feb. 17 and 18 under a sport shot format.

Under sport shot format the lanes are oiled differently than a traditional ‘house shot’ format. The house shot format has a 7:1 ratio of oil inside to outside. A sport shot layout is closer to a 3:1 ratio. If a bowler throws the ball outside of their target, since there is a higher volume of oil, they cannot rely on the lane to hook the ball back to the pocket. The ball will simply slide further due to the higher volume of oil. Now there is an increased premium on accuracy because a miss to the outside of the target will many times also be a bigger miss at the breakpoint.

The sectional consisted of three individual games for five team members and six Baker games.

Leading the day for the Warriors was Sean Martin II with games of 159, 195, and 199 for a 553 series. Next was Bryan Bir with games of 160, 213, and 174 for a 547 series. Patrick Schwartz followed with games of 186, 189, and 168 for a 543 series. Trevor Yost posted a game of 203 and Noah Kunkel posted a 157.

The Warriors put up at total of 2652 for three games. Bakers were a combo of all team members and the bowled games of 205, 234, 161, 245, 175, and 190 for a 1210 baker set giving them an overall total of 3862.

This qualified Wayne 2nd (just missing 1st by 6 pins) in the sectional. The Warriors advanced to district, which will be held Thursday, Feb. 25 at Beaver-Vu Bowl, 1238 N. Fairfield Rd., Beavercreek. Team games begin at 9:45 a.m.

The Girls Varsity Bowling team placed fourth at sectional. Leading the Lady Warriors was Shelbi Craft with games of 194, 203, and 192 for a 589 series. Next was Ryleigh Crouse with games of 200, 154, and 182 for a 536 series. Brittany Hawley followed with games of 169, 174, and 141 for a 484 series while Audrie Goffinet had 145, 132, and 160 for a 437 series. Ashley Lowe posted a game of 165 and Skylar Edwards had a 142 to give the Lady Warriors a total of 2502 for three games.

Baker games were a combo of all team members and the bowled games of 155, 178, 155, 179, 212, and 183 for a 1062 Baker set giving Wayne an overall total of 3564.

The girls will compete in the district tournament at Beaver-Vu on Wednesday, Feb. 24 at 9:45 a.m.
