HUBER HEIGHTS — The Wayne wrestling team hosted its final home match of the season Thursday against Milton-Union and Trotwood-Madison on Senior Night. The match served as a tune-up heading into the Division I sectional February 19 and 20 at Centerville.
Trotwood’s team is down to what Coach Len Jackson refers to as ‘The Fantastic Four’ after starting the season with a roster of six.
In one of the 126 pound matches Dylan Schenck (Milton-Union) won by a fall in 4:31 over Cole Clyne (Wayne).
At 138 Keyan Jumper (Wayne) won by a fall in 52 seconds vs Jordan Cress (M-U).
The 145 pound match saw Chase Mayabb (M-U) win by a fall in 2:49 against Jon Hoover (Wayne).
Jordan Hardrick (Wayne) scored a 20-4 technical fall over Austin Menker (M-U) at 152 pounds.
Christopher Dunn (M-U) won by a fall in 46 seconds vs Justin Kissee (Wayne) at 160 pounds.
In the 182 pound match Caleb Black (M-U) scored a 5-3 decision against Jared Kleff (Wayne).
The 195 pound match saw Tyler Haworth (Wayne) win by a fall in 1:36 against Chance Chapman (M-U).
In the next round of matches 2015 state placer Kamron Paulus (138) of Milton-Union scored a 7-0 decision over Keyan Jumper.
“Paulus is a state placer and Jumper kind of wasn’t ready… didn’t think about it, so to tell you the truth that match kind of humbled him,” said Wayne Assistant Coach Mike Padilla. “He was on a high nine from winning GWOC, so anybody can be beat anybody on any given day.”
In the 120 pound match Demiri Randle (T-M) won by a fall in 2:47 vs Cole Clyne.
Jordan Hardrick (152) scored an 18-3 technical fall against T-M’s Matthew Banks.
At 170 Dominic Badger won by a fall in 2:36 over Jared Kleff.
In the final match Da’Beon Holt scored a hard-fought 3-2 decision over T-M’s Jevon Grant.
“We saw a lot of things tonight that we want to come back and work on this week before sectionals,” Padilla added. “We have some weight classes that we are going to be changing per Coach Bitsko. Trotwood is tough and so is Milton-Union. Splitting with Trotwood was good but Milton had a match on us, but we are still young. We only have four seniors, so we are going in the right direction.”
Wayne senior wrestlers and their parents that were recognized before competition began included Desean Barnes and his father Rudy Barnes; Tyler Haworth with parents Susan and Jeff Haworth; Da’Beon Holt with mother Diana Miller, father Calvin Holt, Sr., grandmother Sunshine Holt and brother Quelin Holt.
