CENTERVILLE — The Wayne cross-country team competed at the GWOC Championships held at Centerville High School on Saturday. Both the Warrior boys and girls were 12th overall in the conference and fourth out of five teams in the GWOC East. Lucas Houk was the top finisher for the Warriors with a second place overall finish in a time of 16:10 to earn 1st team All-GWOC honors.
“Lucas ran a perfect race for him. He was patient and made moves when the opportunity arose, it was an great race.”
For the boys, Vincent Statzer and Rohan Storaci both finish in a time of 18:59 and Cole Williamson and Adam Larman ran 19:11. Daniel Cole (19:44) and William Stephens (19:50) were the varsity places for the Warriors.
The Warrior ladies were paced by sophomore Schyler Schenck who ran a near personal best time of 22:39 followed by Madelynn Cochren (23:18), Kristen Hoelscher (23:43), Kyrsten Childress (24:16), Brooklyn McFadden (25:07), Bailey Koss (25:45) and Abigail Kerestes (26:10).
“Overall we had a decent performance at GWOC this year. I was hoping we would run a little faster as a team, but we still did a good job. We had many personal bests, which is exactly what you want at this time of year.”
The Warriors will compete on Saturday, Oct. 21 in the Division I District Cross Country meet at Cedarville University. The girls will run at 1:00 with the boys following at 1:45.
