HUBER HEIGHTS — The Wayne High School Athletic Hall of Fame Committee and the Huber Heights Athletic Foundation held the 2015 Dinner and Induction Ceremony for this year’s inductees on Saturday, July 25 at Wayne High School.

The featured speaker was Arnie Jones, a member of the Wayne High School Class of 1971, a Hall of Fame Charter Member, and football standout under Coach Woody Hayes at The Ohio State University. Jones told the audience that “it was an honor beyond belief for him to speak at this ceremony. He said that one of the things that Hayes was always talking about was “paying it forward” and noted that it “would come back to you 100 fold.”

“You can’t do anything about what has happened in the past,” said Jones, “but you can always influence what happens in the future.” He said that with the exception of his father, the most influential person he was around was Hayes.

“The things that you learn playing football, the beautiful thing about it is they also work over into your everyday life,” he said.

Among the life lessons that Jones stresses to young people is to do the right thing, be that person that people can count on and to “hang tough.”

“You can never tell what’s going to happen,” said Jones. “But, if you hang in there, you’ve got a chance to see what’s going to happen. If you give up, if you throw in the towel, you’re not going to be around to be able to see the end.”

Another priority Jones stresses to young people is that if something you are contemplating doing would bring tears to your mother if she found out about that, “don’t do it.”

The fifth principal is master command the tipping point in business and in life. Jones gave the example of The Ohio State University national championship game with 10 minutes elapsed in the third quarter when two of Oregon’s defensive lineman put themselves out of the game, “throwing in the towel.”
