HUBER HEIGHTS — The Wayne High School Athletic Hall of Fame Committee and the Huber Heights Athletic Foundation will hold the 2015 Dinner and Induction Ceremony for this year’s inductees on Saturday, July 25 at Wayne High School. The reception is at 5:30 p.m., dinner at 6 p.m. and the program begins at 6:45 p.m.
The Featured Speaker is Arnie Jones, a member of the Wayne High School Class of 1971, a Hall of Fame Charter Member, and football standout under Coach Woody Hayes at The Ohio State University.
Inductees from 2000 to 2002 are from the sports of football and track. Bobby Long, Will Allen, John Hollins and Ernest Tucker were all members of the 1999 state championship runner-up football team. In a first for the Wayne Athletic Hall of Fame, an entire relay team is being inducted as a group. This involves the 4×100-meter relay team from 2000 composed of John Hollins, Bobby Long, Jeremy Richardson and Earnest Tucker that won the state title with a state record 41.45.
Long was a two-year letter winner in football and track. He won the state high jump title in 2000, clearing six foot, seven inches.
Will Allen was a member of the All-State Division I team in football. He played on the 1999 state runner-up football team and received a football scholarship to the Ohio State University. He is going into his 12th year in the NFL and plays for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Due to NFL commitments, Will Allen will not be able to attend, but his father, Keith Allen, is expected to accept the honor.
Hollins lettered four years in track, three years in football and two years in baseball. He was a first team All-Southwest District football selection and first team All-State in 1999. He took second place in the state track meet in the long jump in 2000, soaring 22 feet, nine inches after qualifying for state in that event in 1999.
Tucker was a two year letter winner in track and football. In 1998, he had 868 yards rushing and 13 touchdowns. In 1999, he had a 1,000 yard rushing season and was a special mention All-Southwest District selection.
Richardson was a four year track letter winner. He was a former Wayne record holder in the 200 and 100-meter dashes and a Wayne indoor track record holder in the 55, 60, 200 and 400-meter dashes. He was the Wayne most valuable male track athlete in 1999-2000. He ran on the state runner-up 4×100 relay in 1999.
In 2000, he was the first Wayne male athlete to win the 200-meter dash at the state. He also placed second in the 100 at state. He was the Junior National Olympic champion in the 200.
Richardson was a three time WOL champion in the 400. He was also a national indoor placer at the Nike National meet in 2000.
Jason Hodges ‘02, was a four year track letter winner and helped Wayne win a state championship in 2000 and a state runner-up title in 2002. He was the school record holder in the 110-meter high hurdles and the school indoor record holder in the 55-meter dash and the 60-meter hurdles.
Hodges was a first place Junior National Olympic champion in the 110-meter high hurdles. He won the state meet in the 110-meter high hurdles in 2001 and in the 300-meter hurdles in 2002. He was a two time national champion in the Nike National meet in the 4×55 shuttle hurdles in 2000 and 2001. He received a “full ride” track scholarship to The Ohio State University.
Other inductees are: Marcia Heidkamp (Lutz) 1964-baseball, field hockey, basketball, tennis, volleyball; Dale Eby 1975-gymnastics; Dawn Preyor 1977-track; Ann Marie Niese 1988-track; Kellie Mitchell 1989-soccer, track, cross country, basketball; Ronnie Redd 1990-football; Kevin Thieke 1993-cross country, track; Danny Cwiklik 1995-soccer; Evan Shrewsbury 1999-soccer and Ty Morgan 1999-wrestling.
Also to be inducted are Diane Ireland-Coach (cheerleading), Lt. Col Allen Edwards-community member and Sue Fisher- community member. Accepting for Col. Edwards (deceased) is his son Budd Edwards. Accepting for Sue Fisher (deceased) is her husband Steve Fisher and her children.
