TROTWOOD — The Wayne girls basketball team improved to 6-1 Wednesday night at Trotwood, defeating the hosts 57-36. Wayne led 22-9 after one quarter and 31-22 at halftime.

Wayne Coach Sonja Miller said the victory was a “very exciting win for our young Lady Warrior squad”

“Trotwood is a very seasoned and mature team and very athletic,” she said. “We handled their ball pressure really well and learned a great deal about the importance of staying poised during key times of the game.”

Shai McGruder, a 6-2 sophomore center, paced Wayne with 18 points. Destiny Bohanon, a 5-8 freshman guard, added 15 points, including a trey and was perfect in four attempts at the free throw line. Maya Dunson, a 5-10 sophomore forward, hit a pair of three-point goals and recorded a dozen points.

Also scoring for Wayne were Mali Morgan-Elliott 7, Shenell Parker 3 and Olivia Trice 2.

“We are trending up as a unit and not allowing our youth to interfere with our expectations of winning every game,” said Miller.

Saturday, Wayne hosts undefeated Beavercreek (8-0) at 1 p.m. at Wayne.
