Wayne bowling teams take fifth in GWOC Preseason

CENTERVILLE — The Wayne boys bowling team placed fifth in the championship round of the Greater Western Ohio Conference Pre-Season Tournament. Beavercreek, Springfield and Centerville took the top three spots on Saturday at Poelking Lanes South in Centerville.

Wayne qualified second out of 18 teams into the championship round with a 3902 behind champion Centerville’s 3956. Wayne bowled games of 920, 959 and 943 for a team game total of 2822. In six Baker games, Wayne rolled a 195, 162, 180, 170, 200 and 173 for a Baker total of 1080.

In the three game total, Brandon Beck placed sixth individually with games of 190, 231 and 181 for a 602 series. Sean Martin Jr. had games of 164, 169 and 236 for a 569 series. Brandon Schwartz rolled games of 194, 185 and 187 for a 566 total while Bryan Bir rolled games of 213, 201 and 150 for a 564 total. Noah Kunkel bowed a 173 and a 189.

In the girls competition, Wayne took fifth overall while Troy, Centerville and Fairborn took the top three spots.

The Lady Warriors qualified fifth out of 18 teams into the championship round with 2373 regular pins and 998 Baker pins for a 3371 total. Wayne bowled games of 783, 844 and 746. Their Baker games were 200, 156, 138, 198, 159 and 147.

Brittany Hawley had the sixth best series for the three-game total with a 570 (185, 194 and 191) and said the team did pretty well.

“Being sixth in GWOC pumps me up a little bit and we know that we’re going to go far in the season,” said Hawley.

Shelbi Craft had a 553 series (203, 197 and 153) while Ryleigh Crouse had a 463 (144, 153 and 166). Skylar Edwards had games of 145 and 157 while Sierre Nangle contributed a 143 game.
