HUBER HEIGHTS — UD Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach Kevin Kuwik recently spoke to the Huber Heights Rotary Club about the upcoming season. Among the new players he highlighted was Wayne graduate Xeyrius Williams (6-8, 194 pounds), whom he called a “very smart” basketball player and praised his skill level.
“We’re really excited about him,” said Kuwik. “He’s really young for his age. He just turned 18…I really think physically, he’s got his best days ahead of him physically as his body type fills in.”
Kuwik said UD has a great schedule this year. He highlighted the Advocare Invitational Tournament in Orlando at 9 p.m. on Thanksgiving night, Nov. 26 against Iowa at the HP Field House.
“It’s going to be great because Xeyrius and Ahmad Wagner are both Wayne grads and they’re both going to be freshman playing against each other, so I think that will be really cool.”
Kuwik said if UD wins that game, they would probably play Notre Dame and if they lose, they will probably play Monmouth on Friday, Nov. 27. UD will play again in the Advocare Invitational on Sunday, Nov. 29. Possible opponents could be USC, Wichita State, Xavier or Alabama in that contest.
UD will travel to Vanderbilt at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 9 to play a pre-season top 25 opponent which Kuwik said would be a good game for UD.
Arkansas will visit Dayton at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 30 after hosting UD last season.
“That will be a lot of fun,” said Kuwik.
UD opened the season on Friday, Nov. 13 at home against Southeast Missouri State with an 84-53 victory.
In the A-10, Kuwik said that VCU (March 5), Davidson (Jan. 12), Rhode Island (Feb. 12) and George Washington (Jan. 15) will play at Dayton this year.
“I would say that those teams are probably four of the top five or six teams in the league and they’re all going to be playing here at home, so that will be a lot of fun,” said Kuwik.
