HUBER HEIGHTS — Wayne High School seniors Madison Doss and Messiah DeWeaver have been named the Huber Heights Rotary Scholastic Athletic Award winners for November.
Doss, the daughter of Cathy Thompson and Mike Doss, is a member of the Wayne girls soccer team. She also competes in indoor and outdoor track. She plans to attend college and study business and compete in track and field.
“Every since I was little, I’ve played soccer,” said Doss. “It’s a stress reliever for me and I couldn’t picture my life without it. Having the ball at my feet feels like the rest of the world is zoned out. I love knowing that no matter what happens, I’ll always have soccer to fall back on.”
Doss said she looks up to her older sister, Andi.
“…She has pushed me to stay on the right track and wants me to be successful,” said Doss. “Andi also played soccer growing up, so following in her footsteps is easy. She always knows what to say to help keep me positive. I’m not sure what I would do without her.”
DeWeaver, the son of Michelle and Dwight DeWeaver, competes in football. He plans to attend Michigan State University on a football scholarship.
“I love football,” he said. “I work really hard at it and I like to win. It’s the best sport in the world. The team aspect of football and leading your brothers is the best thing about it.”
DeWeaver said he looks up to his parents.
“I look up to my parents because they do so much for our family,” he said. “I want to be a great dad and be just like them as parents. They have shown me the way.”
The Huber Heights Rotary Scholastic Athletic Award is awarded monthly to Wayne High School athletes.
The winner must have a 3.0 grade point average and be a student athlete of good standing at Wayne High School that is considered to be a role model for other students.
