ARCANUM —On Thursday, the Wayne golf team turned in a good performance at the Greater Western Ohio Conference Postseason Tournament shooting a 321 to place fifth, two strokes shy of fourth place Beavercreek. Springboro took top honors in the 16 team field with a 298 while Butler (300) and Centerville (313) rounded out the top three.

“We did really well today,” said Wayne Coach Jon Soukup concerning the team’s fifth place finish. “It was a really good finish.”

Bryce Haney paced Wayne with a 76 (35-41) to place seventh individually overall while Zach Johnson had a 79 (40-39). James Harness shot an 80 (37-43) while A.J. Henry had an 86 (44-42). Riley Brown also competed and finished with a 91 (46-45).

“We’re playing well at the right time of the season,” said Soukup. “At this time of the year, we’re focusing on finishing strong in the GWOC where we didn’t have a very good year in match play, but finished sixth in the pre-season and fith in the post-season. I believe we’ve improved by either eight or 10 strokes from our pre-season score.”

Wayne will compete in a tri-match against Springboro and Troy at 4 p.m. on Tuesday at Heatherwood in preparation for the sectional tournament.
