Each summer, personnel changes occur throughout our school district. This summer is no different. As the 2015 – 2016 school year begins, staff, students, parents, and community members will see quite a few new faces walking the halls of the Huber Heights City Schools.
Ms. Beth Zugelder is the new Director of Special Services for our school district. Ms. Zugelder comes to Huber Heights with a variety of experiences. Most recently, she was the building principal at Parkwood Elementary School In Beavercreek. Ms. Zugelder has also served as an assistant elementary principal, an ESL (English as a Second Language) coordinator, an Intervention Specialist, and a social worker. She is a graduate of John Carroll University where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology, and Wright State University where she earned a Master’s Degree in Special Education. Ms. Zugelder also attended the University of Dayton in order to complete course work in educational administration and curriculum.
As the Director of the Special Services Department, Ms. Zugelder will work with psychologists, intervention specialists, speech therapists, teachers, administrators, and others as they focus on identifying and serving students with special needs. She will also work with the special needs pre-school staff and students housed at Studebaker.
Another area that is under Ms. Zugelder’s supervision is the ESL (English as a second language) area. The ESL personnel provide services and supports to those students in grades Pre-K through 12 whose primary or home language is not English. The goal is to help each ESL student acquire English language proficiency through providing assessment, interventions, and monitoring services designed in accordance with mandated state policy and procedures.
The Special Services Department is located at Studebaker and can be reached via phone at (937) 237-6300. Ms. Zugelder brings many talents to our school district and I am looking forward to working with her. I hope you will welcome her to the Huber Heights City Schools.
