Once again, Ohio Governor John Kasich has signed a proclamation designating the month of January as “School Board Recognition Month.” Our Huber Heights City School District Board of Education consists of five citizens elected to serve overlapping terms of four years each. This month we welcome two new members to the Huber Heights Board of Education. Mr. G. Michael Miller and Mrs. Krista Tipton were elected to the Board in November and will begin their four year terms this month. They join Mr. Mark Combs and Mr. Kelly Bledsoe. We also say good-bye to Mr. Carl Fisher, Mrs. Anita Brock, and Mr. Josh Sullenberger.
As the elected representatives of Huber Heights, board members set educational goals and establish district policy based upon Ohio laws and the values of our community. Because our board members are also a part of our community, they work to serve the needs of our children and ensure that decisions about our schools reflect the wishes of the Huber Heights community. The role of board member requires attendance at numerous meetings as well as many district and school activities.
Board members must also spend many hours of their own time fulfilling the responsibilities required of their position. In order to make the best possible decisions for the students of our community, board members must read through pages of reports, agendas, proposals and other information. Board members also serve as the link between our schools and our community and spend many hours talking to and helping parents and others understand the various policies and procedures of our school district.
Our school board members make a positive difference for every child, every day. On behalf of the staff and students of the Huber Heights City Schools, I want to thank all of our board of education members, current and past, for their service to our students, our schools, and our community. I hope many of our community members will make a special effort to thank our school board members for their hard work. As always, if you have questions about our schools, please contact me at the Administrative Offices (237-6300) or through e-mail at Susan.Gunnell@huberheightscityschools.org.
