COLUMBUS — With a score of 853 pins to Wapakoneta’s total of 752 the Wayne boys bowling team won the Division I bowling championship March 4 at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl.
Wayne defeated Boardman 870 to 780 and advanced to defeat Centerville 670 to 570 to set up the showdown with Wapakoneta.
In the qualifying rounds Bryan Bir led the Warriors with scores of 248, 200 and 202 for a 650 series. Sean Martin II rolled games of 247, 182 and 213 for a 642 series. Patrick Schwartz posted scores of 209, 192 and 225 for a 626 series while Brandon Beck hit 233, 167 and 216 for a 616 series.
The Warriors placed fourth in qualifying rounds but set a new school record for a team baker game.
Last year Wayne finished state runner-up to Beavercreek 825 to 770 but this year dominated the competition winning its matches by an average of 97 pins.
