HUBER HEIGHTS — A Huber Heights Police Officer was injured in an accident on Bellefontaine Road on Wednesday evening.

Huber Heights Police officials say that the officer was stopped to assist a stranded motorist whose vehicle was broken down in the roadway. The motorist was in the police cruiser to stay warm while waiting until AAA could respond to the scene.

According to a preliminary investigation, a vehicle failed to stop and rear ended the cruiser despite its emergency lights being turned on. That crash pushed the police cruiser into the rear of the stranded vehicle. Both the cruiser and he vehicle that struck it sustained heavy damage.

The police officer, stranded motorist, and the driver of the third vehicle were injured and transported to Miami Valley Hospital. Police suspect alcohol may have played a factor in the crash which is still under investigation.
