Knights of Columbus to host fish fry

HUBER HEIGHTS — The Knights of Columbus #4424 is hosting a Fish Fry every third Friday through May. The next one is Friday, October 21, 2016 at 6 pm at the Our Lady of Peace Recreation Hall at 4293 Powell Road in Huber Heights. The All-You-Can-Eat Buffet Dinner includes: Fried Fish, Baked Fish, Sausage and Chicken Nuggets, with sides including Steak Fries, Macaroni and Cheese, Cole Slaw, Baked Beans, Green Beans, as well as Soft Drinks, Coffee and Beer. Desserts also offered for a nominal price by the Ladies Auxiliary. Cost is $14 for adults; $6 for 12 and under; under 5 Free. $40 for the family (Family is Parents and their Children under 18). All proceeds go to charity. Receive a free 50/50 ticket when you donate two canned goods. All are welcome.

Faith Presbyterian to host Harvest Party

HUBER HEIGHTS — The community is invited to a harvest party at Faith Presbyterian Church, 5555 Chambersburg Road, on October 29 from 2-4 p.m. Join us for a fun filled afternoon of games, crafts, snacks and Trunk or Treating. Harvest Breakfast and Bazaar

HUBER HEIGHTS — A free Harvest Breakfast will be served at Bath Presbyterian Church, 4624 Bath Road, Huber Heights, on Saturday, November 5. Breakfast will be served from 9 a.m. to noon. The Women’s Gathering will have a bazaar, bake sale, and flea market from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Bring your family, friends, and neighbors to enjoy great food, fellowship, and do some early Christmas shopping.

Community Christmas Tree Lighting

HUBER HEIGHTS — Wayne Township-Huber Heights Historical Society will host their annual Community Christmas Tree Lighting on Monday, November 28, 2016 at 6 p.m. in the Huber Centre, located on Chambersburg Rd., and Brandt Pk., across from St. Peter School. Children from local elementary schools will perform, Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive in a horse drawn wagon. Carr’s Belgium horses and wagons will provide rides for kids of all ages, hot coca and cookies will be available and everyone can enjoy the model train will be on display. All this is free thanks to our sponsors: Heights Café, Business at the Huber Centre, Suez water company and Oldies Radio. Photos with Santa will be available at $7. Per photo. HUBER HEIGHTS — The Huber Heights City Council has scheduled a regular city council meeting for Monday, October 24, 2016 at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers at 6131 Taylorsville Road in Huber Heights.

FISH Food Pantry seeks phone volunteers

HUBER HEIGHTS — The Huber Heights FISH Food Pantry is in desperate need of volunteers who live in Huber Heights to take phone calls. We have two people on any one day taking phone calls from home to help people wanting to make an appointment to come to the pantry. Time ranges from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays. Volunteers can work as little or as much as they would like, but generally take at least two mornings a month. We would like to continue to serve as many people as we can, but if we don’t get more volunteers, we may need to reduce our hours. Please call Jean Wallingford at 667-0276.

Sports legends of Dayton

DAYTON — Friendship Village will host Angie Hoschouer of Woodland telling us about the Sports Legends of the Dayton area. The public is invited on November 1, 2016 at 1:30 in the convocation room.

Everyone loves a good sports story and we have plenty with these legends resting at Woodland: Sprint car racer, Johnny Shackleford; inventor of the metal baseball bat, William Shroyer; founder of McGregor Golf Club Co., Ziba Crawford; cyclist and race car driver, Earl Kiser; UD Basketball Coach, Tom Blackburn; former Harlem Globetrotter, Al Tucker, Sr.; 1936 silver Medalist in High Jump, David Albritton and UD and NBA basketball player, Donald E. Smith, plus many more.

AARP tax aide volunteers needed

HUBER HEIGHTS — If you like working with numbers and helping people, the AARP Tax Aide program may be a good fit for you. Volunteers prepare taxes at the Vandalia and Huber Heights Senior Centers and at the Harrison Township Government Building. Training is provided for current IRS certification, All equipment and supplies are furnished. If interested, please contact local coordinator, Bill Lindsey, at 572-5556.

Square dance lessons offered in Huber Heights

HUBER HEIGHTS — Double H Squares offer square dance lessons beginning Tuesday, Sept. 13 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Sulphur Grove United Methodist Church Activity Center, 7505 Taylorsville Rd. Fee $3 per person. Lessons are for ages 10 and up. Casual attire is suggested and no experience is necessary. The instructor for the lessons is Bob Jones. Heights Farmer’s Market to hold food drive

HUBER HEIGHTS – The Heights Farmer’s Market and the Fish Food Pantry will be holding a summer-long food drive beginning Saturday, June 11 through October 29.

This event for Fish Food Pantry of Huber Heights all proceeds go toward the Pantry. We will have this food drive all summer long. Please bring non perishable food items and or personal hygiene products to The Heights Farmers Market on Saturdays from 9am to 1 pm or during the weekdays there will be drop off box inside The Heights Cafe.

Grief Ministry at Sulphur Grove

HUBER HEIGHTS – The Grief Ministry at Sulphur Grove United Methodist Church serves the purpose of standing alongside to support those who have encountered an indirect or significant loss in their lives. This ministry focuses on caring, loving, and encouraging each person through their grief journey. We have group meetings on the first and third Thursday of the month.

Starting October 6 our Grief Ministry team will be hosting the afternoon (1:30 p.m. -3:00 p.m.) grief sessions at the YMCA in Huber Heights. The evening (6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.) sessions will remain at the church.

Men’s Only Grief Session: This session will be lead by Chaplin Tom with Hospice of Dayton at the YMCA in Huber Heights on Wednesday, October 17th from 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be served –please RSVP @ or 937.236.5970 by October 12th.

Cancer Companions

HUBER HEIGHTS — Cancer Companions is a program designed to help people; In-treatment, Post-treatment (survivors), Caregivers and Loved-ones, that have been impacted by the chaos of cancer. This is to help them find new and meaningful ways of Seeing God in their Cancer Journey. The program consists of nine sessions that focus on Faith, Questions for God, Spiritual Healing, Prayer, Stress Reduction, Relationships, Communication and Healthy Living. There is a one-time fee of $16.00 (the cost of the book).This program will be held an hour and a half, one day a week for nine weeks. The program is open to anyone 18 and over. Kiser High School Almuni Meetings

HUBER HEIGHTS — Kiser High School alumni meetings are held on the fourth Wednesday of each month (except November and December) at the American Legion Post 200 which is at 5046 Nebraska Avenue, Huber Heights. Meetings begin at 7 p.m. Graduates, attendees, and friends of Kiser High School ae welcome to attend. Please park at the rear of the building and use rear entrance.
