NARFE Chapter 2238 to hold picnic June 17
HUBER HEIGHTS — Chapter 2238 of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) will be having a picnic on Friday June 17 at noon at Tom Cloud Park, Shelter No. 4 (next to the one used last year) at the top of the hill. The park is on Brandt Pike across from the Kroger Store in Huber Heights. Each member please bring a side dish and your own plates and utensils. The chapter will provide fried chicken and beverages. The next meeting will be September 16. More information will follow on this meeting.
City seeks volunteers for Star Spangled Heights
HUBER HEIGHTS – The City of Huber Heights is seeking volunteers for the Star Spangled Heights Celebration to be held July 2, 2016 at Thomas Cloud Park. Organizers are seeking people who are personable, energetic, creative, motivated, flexible, considerate, and trustworthy. Volunteers will monitor inflatables and supervise children’s games. Wayne High School to hold Freshman Orientation
HUBER HEIGHTS — An open house and orientation for incoming freshmen will be held Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2016 from 8 – 11:30 a.m. Attendees will be given a tour of the school, discuss graduation requirements, recieve their schedule and locke assignments, and other small presentations. Heights Farmer’s Market to hold food drive
HUBER HEIGHTS – The Heights Farmer’s Market and the Fish Food Pantry will be holding a summer-long food drive beginning Saturday, June 11 through October 29.
This event for Fish Food Pantry of Huber Heights all proceeds go toward the Pantry. We will have this food drive all summer long. Please bring non perishable food items and or personal hygiene products to The Heights Farmers Market on Saturdays from 9am to 1 pm or during the weekdays there will be drop off box inside The Heights Cafe.
Live Free Literacy Program Returns to Aldersgate UMC
HUBER HEIGHTS – Live Free is a free program for kids entering kindergarten through entering 6th grade. This program offers lunch & snack, reading, crafts, games, sports, service projects,and stories of hope from the Bible. Live Free will be offered at Aldersgate Thursdays from 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM starting June 23 and ending July 30 (six Thursday’s in all). This year’s program will also include time each day in our community garden.

Polk Grove to hold Cruise-in to Spring dinner
BUTLER TWP. — Polk Grove United Church of Christ will be holding its annual Cruise-In to Spring spaghetti dinner on Sunday, June 12 from 4 to 7p.m in the church parking lot. The spaghetti dinner will include spaghetti and meatballs, salad, Texas toast, dessert, and a drink. HH Democratic Club to hold Picnic in the Park

Folk Dance Workshop slated
DAYTON – The Miami Valley Folk Dancers will hold an International Folk Dance Workshop at the Michael Solomon Pavilion, 2917 Berkley St., Dayton, Ohio on June 11-12, from 9:30-5:00 each day.
Master teacher, Roberto Bagnoli, from Rome, Italy will teach folk dances from northern and southern Europe as well as Israel and Turkey. Cost ranges from $14 per session to $65 for the entire week-end package which consists of four teaching sessions and a Saturday night dance party. No partner or prior experience is necessary. Library teen photo contest accepting entries
DAYTON — Area teens are invited to enter the Dayton Metro Library’s Teen Photo Contest, accepting entries now through July 30, 2016. Montgomery County teens in grades 7-12 can enter in one of four categories: Black & White, Color, Digitally Enhanced and Googly-Eyes. Cash prizes courtesy of the Friends of the Library will be awarded in each category: $100 first place, $75 second place, $50 third place.
“Entries will be judged on quality and creativity,” said Steve Moser, Teen Services Librarian. “Judges will select the finalists in each category, then the finalists will be posted on our website for popular vote.”

Canine Companions for Independence fundraiser
VANDALIA – Canine Companions for Independence is a non-profit organization that enhances the lives of people with disabilities by providing highly trained service dogs, free of charge. A fundraiser for the group presented by the Northmont Area Sales Network with the proceeds benefitting Canine Companions for Independence will be held Thursday, June 23, 2016 at the Amvets Post 99 at 1023 S. Brown School Road in Vandalia. Doors open at 6:15 p.m. with auction beginning at 7 p.m. sharp. Admission is $2 with $1 for each additional paddle. Tokens will be sold in $5 and $10 bags with each token worth 25 cents.
Englewood Art Festival seeking artists, parade participants
ENGLEWOOD — Applications from artists and parade participants for the 43rd annual Englewood Art Festival, Saturday August 13, and Sunday August 14, 2016 are now being accepted by the Englewood Festival and Arts Commission.
The parade is a prelude to all of the festival events and will take place on Union Boulevard at 9 a.m. Saturday August 13.
Artists are asked to submit photos of their handmade original work for review by the Festival Exhibitors Committee. Applications are due June 1 and can be found on the Englewood city website at www.englewood.oh.us or by calling the Earl Heck Community Center at 937-836-5929.

HUBER HEIGHTS – The Grief Ministry at Sulphur Grove UMC would like to introduce the launching of our Grief blog. This blog is designed to inspire, comfort, and nurture those that are walking along the journey of grief. Through this technical avenue, this ministry will be able to minister to its congregation and the Huber Heights community at any time.
