Huber Heights City Wide Garage Sale

HUBER HEIGHTS — The City of Huber Heights hosts a Community Wide Garage Sale two times per year and the next one is slated for June 9-12, 2016! Each year, our Community Wide Garage Sale is held on the second Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday of June and of October.

The city encourage residents to participate if they would like to sell their unwanted items.

There is a sign up sheet for the sale at City Hall. Registration and permits are not required for these sales. The sign up list will be distributed to shoppers in person and online who want to find the sales through out our City. Applicant name and phone number will not be published for privacy concerns.

Neighborhood Watch meeting set

HUBER HEIGHTS — The Huber Heights neighborhood watch meeting will be on Thursday May 19 at 6 p.m. at at the Huber Heights Police Division located at 6121 Taylorsville rd. At our last meeting we went over a presentation on how to set up a neighborhood watch and also briefly talked about issues in your neighborhoods.

For the next meeting we’ll discuss home security issues, more specifically, how to prevent thefts and break ins, and how to prepare your house when leaving on vacation. We’ll also spend a brief moment discussing crime issues in your neighborhood. As always, to be proactive on this topic, I strongly encourage you to contact me with any questions, issues or concerns you might have involving where you live. Walk for Food

HUBER HEIGHTS – The community is invited to take part in a Walk for Food benefitting the Huber Heights Fish Food Pantry on Saturday, May 21, 2016. Registration is at 9:30 a,m, at Faith Presbyterian Church at 5555 Chambersburg Road. The entry fee is two cans or boxes of food or $2.00. The walk is from 10-11 a.m. and is 1-1/2 miles long. It will begin and end at the church. Strollers are welcome. The pastor at Faith is Rev. Maggie Gillespie. The phone number is 233-0873.

Grief Ministry to meet at Sulphur Grove

HUBER HEIGHTS – The Grief Ministry at Sulphur Grove serves the purpose of standing alongside to support those who have encountered an indirect or significant loss in their lives. This ministry focuses on caring, loving, and encouraging each person through their grief journey. Meetings are held on the first and third Thursday of the month. All sessions are held at Sulphur Grove United Methodist Church.

Our next group meeting will be on Thursday, May 19 from 6-7:30 p.m.. Steve Karnehm with Christian Counseling Associates will be our guest speaker at both of these meetings. He will be discussing the grief that surfaces during and after a divorce regardless of when the divorce has occurred (recently or long ago). RSVP @ or 937.236.5970 by May 18.

First Christian to host Cave Quest Adventure Week

HUBER HEIGHTS – A summer kids’ event called Cave Quest Adventure Week will be hosted at First Christian Church of Huber Heights jUNE 13-17 from 8:55 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. At Cave Quest, kids explore what it means to follow Jesus through dark times. Kids participate in memorable Bible-learning activities, sing catchy songs, play teamwork-building games, dig into yummy treats, experience one-of-a-kind Bible adventures, meet Bible Memory Buddies to remind them of Jesus’ love, and test out some Sciency-Fun Gizmos.

Kids at Cave Quest Adventure Week will join a missions effort for CRAM, Christ Reaching Asia Mission.

Cave Quest is for kids from 4 years old by June 13 to sixth grade in the fall. This year those graduating from the sixth grade are invited to attend as sixth graders. For more information or to register, see our website at or call our office at 937-236-8029.

HUBER HEIGHTS — The Huber Heights City Council has scheduled a meeting Thursday, May 19, 2016 at or about 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 6131 Taylorsville Road. The meeting is open to the public.

Charter Review Commission to hold meetings

HUBER HEIGHTS — The Huber Heights Charter Review Commission will hold regular meetings on Wednesday evenings in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 6131 Taylorsville Road. The meetings will be held weekly at 8 p.m. until the commission determines its work is complete. The meetings are open to the public.

CLAYTON — The Planning Committee of the Northmont Class of 1966 is busy planning for their 50th class reunion the weekend of August 19, 2016. Canine Companions for Independence fundraiser

VANDALIA – Canine Companions for Independence is a non-profit organization that enhances the lives of people with disabilities by providing highly trained service dogs, free of charge. A fundraiser for the group presented by the Northmont Area Sales Network with the proceeds benefitting Canine Companions for Independence will be held Thursday, June 23, 2016 at the Amvets Post 99 at 1023 S. Brown School Road in Vandalia. Doors open at 6:15 p.m. with auction beginning at 7 p.m. sharp. Admission is $2 with $1 for each additional paddle. Tokens will be sold in $5 and $10 bags with each token worth 25 cents.

Englewood Art Festival seeking artists, parade participants

ENGLEWOOD — Applications from artists and parade participants for the 43rd annual Englewood Art Festival, Saturday August 13, and Sunday August 14, 2016 are now being accepted by the Englewood Festival and Arts Commission.

The parade is a prelude to all of the festival events and will take place on Union Boulevard at 9 a.m. Saturday August 13.

Artists are asked to submit photos of their handmade original work for review by the Festival Exhibitors Committee. Applications are due June 1 and can be found on the Englewood city website at or by calling the Earl Heck Community Center at 937-836-5929.

Summer Aerospace Camp registration now open

Registration for four affordable and exciting summer aerospace camps is now open at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force. Campers who have completed grades 4-8 will be able to learn about a variety of topics through hands-on activities that incorporate history, science and math concepts, as well as team-building skills. Kiser High School Almuni Meetings

HUBER HEIGHTS — Kiser High School alumni meetings are held on the fourth Wednesday of each month (except November and December) at the American Legion Post 200 which is at 5046 Nebraska Avenue, Huber Heights. Meetings begin at 7 p.m. Graduates, attendees, and friends of Kiser High School ae welcome to attend. Please park at the rear of the building and use rear entrance.
