HUBER HEIGHTS — Montgomery County Auditor Karl Keith named Dick’s Sporting Goods as the winner of the 2016 Excellence in Scanning Award. Keith presented the award to managers from their two local stores on Tuesday, March 29th at morning meetings held at each location.

Auditor Keith presents the Excellence in Scanning Award every year to a local business that demonstrates a commitment to accurate pricing. In the past year, county inspectors conducted price verifications to confirm that item prices matched prices at the checkout. More than 330 retailers earned perfect scores including both of the two Dick’s Sporting Goods stores.

“During this time where retailers and consumers alike are combating illegal activities such as credit card skimmers, it is refreshing to see a store offer quality service to their patrons,” Keith said. “The peace-of-mind fair and accurate pricing can offer goes a long way to creating repeat customers.”

According to Keith, county weights and measures inspectors help to ensure the integrity of the marketplace for both consumers and retailers by testing everyday products such as groceries, cleaning supplies, hardware and other household goods.

The Auditor’s Office employs three full-time inspectors who tested and certified over 2,000 scales, scanned more than 30,000 items for price verification and inspected more than 7,000 gas pumps in 2015.

During the award presentation, Keith praised the store for promoting a high standard of accuracy. “I want to commend Dick’s Sporting Goods for providing reliable and consistent pricing on their items,” Keith said. Of the two area Dick’s Sporting Goods stores, both received a perfect score in 2015.”

Founded in 1948 by Richard Stack in Binghamton, New York, Dick’s Sporting Goods prides itself on playing a vital role to use sports to positively shape our youth. The chain is one of the largest sporting goods retailers in the country with 610 stores in 47 states including their two area locations in Huber Heights and at the Dayton Mall.
