Good Friday musical event offered in Huber Heights

HUBER HEIGHTS — The public is invited to a free performance of sacred music, celebrating the Savior’s life on Friday, March 25 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 5750 Shull Road in Huber Heights. The performance will begin at 7 p.m. The choir is conducted by Leon C. Wolford with organist Sylvia E. Reed and narrator William J. Foster. This is the eighth year the choir will perform and each year there have been several hundred attendees. Members of the choir come from the Miami Valley and surrounding areas. Conductor Wolford often invites special musicians to accompany the large choir, including high school students and seasoned performers.

Easter Egg Hunt open to community

HUBER HEIGHTS — First Christian Church, located at 6114 Fishburg Rd. Huber Heights, will have several thousand brightly colored plastic eggs hidden for children to find on Saturday, March 26. The Egg Hunt begins at 11 a.m. for children who are three years old through the sixth grade. However, children of all ages may enjoy a refreshment stand. This is a great time for families to celebrate new life through Jesus. Join us and invite your friends and neighbors to come as well!

Free document shredding event

HUBER HEIGHTS — The Huber Heights office of AAA is hosting a free document shred-it event on Saturday, April 30 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is open to both members of AAA and non-members. The event will be held at the AAA office at 8381 Old Troy Pike, Huber Heights.

LWV to host conversation with Auditor

DAYTON – On Tuesday, March 29, The League of Women Voters of the Greater Dayton Area invites county residents to an informative conversation with Karl Keith, Auditor. Mr. Keith will focus on the estate tax, but is also prepared to discuss real estate taxes and general changes in Ohio tax policy in recent years.

“The League prides ourselves on bringing programs to the community that help citizens be more knowledgeable in a wide range of topics,” said Sue Hesselgesser, executive director of the LWVGDA. “Taxes are one topic everyone talks about, and we want to ensure that they get the facts from the elected official in charge of their taxes.”

This is an informal program in one of the Oregon District’s most charming eateries. If participants care to, they may purchase their own food and beverages prior to Mr. Keith’s talk.

Lily’s Bistro is located at 329 E. Fifth St. in Dayton’s historic Oregon District. Free parking is available on the street and in the lot next door to the restaurant.

Community Art Show slated

HUBER HEIGHTS — The Huber Heights Arts & Beautification Commission will present the Creative Impressions Community Art Show on Sunday, April 10 from 1-3 p.m. at the Huber Heights Senior Center located at 6428 Chambersburg Road. The show is open to all artists in and around Huber Heights. There is no fee, and all art media is welcome. Artists are asked to register by April 1. LWV to discuss home-grown terrorists

DAYTON — The League of Women Voters invites the public to a discussion about home grown terrorists with special guest speaker Angela Byers, FBI Special Agent in Charge. Meteorology Mania

March 19

9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Learn about various aspects of weather, especially regarding how it affects flight, through a number of fun demonstrations and hands-on activities during Family Day from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on March 19 at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force. Activities include the interactive quiz game “Are you a weather wizard?”; learning how a cloud forms; “Are you smarter than a fourth grader?” which will test visitors’ knowledge about all types of clouds; and a demonstration about barometers to help people discover how thermals affect flight and more. Plus, a team from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric (NOAA) will be on hand to talk about National Weather Service projects. Visit for more information about this free event.

Home School Day

April 4

Home school students can explore the world’s largest aviation museum and learn about aviation history and STEM topics during Spring Home School Day on April 4 at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force. Throughout the day, home school children, ages 3-18, can participate in a number of free educational activities, many focusing on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) themes. Church to sponsor mobile food pantry

HUBER HEIGHTS — Do you know someone that struggles to get food for their family? With God’s Grace “Mobile Food Pantry” we will be passing out 125 bags on April 16, 2016 at Onelove Church on 4585 Chambersburg Rd. Huber Heights, Ohio 45424. Englewood Art Festival seeking artists, parade participants

ENGLEWOOD — Applications from artists and parade participants for the 43rd annual Englewood Art Festival, Saturday August 13, and Sunday August 14, 2016 are now being accepted by the Englewood Festival and Arts Commission.

The parade is a prelude to all of the festival events and will take place on Union Boulevard at 9 a.m. Saturday August 13.

Artists are asked to submit photos of their handmade original work for review by the Festival Exhibitors Committee. Applications are due June 1 and can be found on the Englewood city website at or by calling the Earl Heck Community Center at 937-836-5929.

Lenten schedule for Faith Church

HUBER HEIGHTS — Faith Presbyterian Church will be presenting a Lenten study every Wednesday for the next four weeks. Summer Aerospace Camp registration now open

Registration for four affordable and exciting summer aerospace camps is now open at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force. Campers who have completed grades 4-8 will be able to learn about a variety of topics through hands-on activities that incorporate history, science and math concepts, as well as team-building skills. Air Force Muesum building to open June 8

WRIGHT PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE — The National Museum of the U.S. Air Force’s new $40.8 million fourth building including aircraft such as SAM 26000 (Air Force One) and the only remaining XB-70 Valkyrie, will open to the public on June 8, 2016. The 224,000 square foot building, which was privately financed by the Air Force Museum Foundation, will house more than 70 aircraft, missiles, and space vehicles in four new galleries – Presidential, Research and Development, Space and Global Reach, along with three science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) Learning Nodes. HUBER HEIGHTS — Kiser High School alumni meetings are held on the fourth Wednesday of each month (except November and December) at the American Legion Post 200 which is at 5046 Nebraska Avenue, Huber Heights.
