COLUMBUS — Ohio Governor has won his home state’s Republican Presidential Primary.
CNN declared Kasich the winner at 8:48 p.m. and other media outlets quickly followed suit.
As of 9:30 p.m., with 29% of precincts reporting statewide, Kasich was leading with 43.73% of the vote. Donald Trump was trailing with 36.38%, and Ted Cruz was a distant third at 14.54%.
Florida Senator Marco Rubio, who suspended his campaign Tuesday after being beaten in his home state, was a distant fourth with 3.37% of the vote.
Trump held slim leads in North Carolina, Missouri, and Illinois but none of the states had been called.
On the Democratic side, Former Secretary of State Hilary Clinton was declared the winner early as she rolled over Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders. As of 9:30 p.m. Clinton had rreceived 58.93% of the vote to just 39.87% for Sanders.
The Associated Press declared Clinton the winner at 8:42 p.m.
Ohio was just one of the states won by Clinton. The former Secretary also won Florida and North Carolina by wide margins on Tuesday almost ensuring she will be the Democratic Party’s nominee in November.
