HUBER HEIGHTS — Doug Sloan and Ameera Salah, both seniors at Wayne High School, were chosen as the Feb. 16 Scholastic Athletic Award winners by the Huber Heights Rotary Club.

Sloan is a four-year swimmer who also plays tennis, is a member of the National Honor Society, and Drama Club. He plans to attend college and earn a Masters in Computer Engineering. Sloan is the son of Teresa Sloan.

“The memories, the people, and the thrill of the race are what make me love my sport more and more every day,” said Sloan. “I love the sport because it’s completely self-reliant – the outcome of the race all depends solely on me and my own performance.”

Salah is also a swimmer, and has swam for two years. She also plays tennis and soccer.

“I love the social aspect of swimming…and all the support my teammates and coaches have given me since I started,” said Salah. “That is something that I will always be thankful for.”

Salah plans to attend college and study engineering. She is the daughter of Bahia Salah.
