HUBER HEIGHTS — Monday night, Mayor Thomas McMasters recognized three outgoing City Council members for their service with individual proclamations expressing appreciation for their dedicated and distinguished service resulting in improvements to the city enhancing the quality of life for residents. He also presented a key to the city to each outgoing Council member and a plaque. He said the three have been dynamic leaders and an integral part of the numerous achievements of the city and have been involved in a variety of special projects.
McMasters said that Karen Kaleps has been a member of the Huber Heights City Council, representing Ward 2, from June 1981 through December 1983 and from January 1986 through December, 2015.
McMasters said that Kaleps has served as the Chair of the Public Works Committee, the Administration Committee, service as Vice Mayor for six terms, the Miami Valley Military Affairs Association, and the addition of recreational amenities to the city.
Kaleps said that she and her husband have never regretted that they had committed themselves to this community and said that it really is “our town.” She expressed her gratitude to the community for allowing the Kaleps family to be part of this community “in such a big way.”
McMasters indicated that Jan Vargo has been a member of the Huber Heights City Council representing At Large from January 1984 through December 1985 and from January 1992 through December 2015. He said Vargo has served on the Public Services and Safety Committee, the Administration Committee, served as Vice Mayor for four terms, the Miami Valley Military Affairs Association, the Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission, the First Tier Suburbs Consortium, and was involved in the addition of recreational amenities to the city.
Vargo said it’s absolutely been a treat to serve and said she was proud of the things that Council has been able to accomplish and she thanked the community for the priviledge of serving them.
McMasters indicated that Lu Dale has been a member of the Huber Heights City Council representing Ward 1 from January, 2012 through December, 2015 and has served on the Public Services and Safety Committee, the First Tier Suburbs Consortium, the Miami Valley Military Affairs Association and served as Vice Mayor in 2015.
Dale said she would forever be grateful to Huber Heights and that she loves the city and plans to work with the citizens and whoever needs her and said she was available. She said she was happy to be a part of some of the things accomplished by the city.
Flowers were presented to the three on behalf of the Huber Heights Chamber of Commerce to thank these three Council members for their years of service.
Don and Toni Webb also presented flowers and thanked the three outgoing Council members for their service and dedication and for their work in making the city what it is today.
