Fund raiser set to acquire service dog for Hall

HUBER HEIGHTS — A fund raiser will be held for Natalie Hall, a nine-year-old student at Rushmore Elementary School, to help her acquire a service dog from 4 Paws for Ability in Xenia. A fundraising raffle and cocktail party will be held at 6 p.m. on Oct. 23 at Celebrations Banquet Center, located at 3119 Stop 8 Road, to raise money towards the $15,000 needed before 4 Paws for Ability will begin to train a dog specifically to suit Natalie’s needs.

Natalie is the daughter of Jeanne Grubb Hall and Del Hall, both Wayne graduates. According to her grandmother, Diane Brogan-Adams, Natalie was born 17 weeks early and has cerebral palsy, which causes her to not be able to walk without a walker or some assistance from others. She also has severe speech apraxia and her understandable words are three words total.

Jeanne Hall has applied to 4 Paws and been approved for Natalie to receive a service dog to assist with her walking and behavior sensitivities, according to Brogan-Adams, who indicated that Natalie “is such a treasure for the entire family.” The dog will be trained to assist Natalie with mobility and balance and retrieval of objects. It will also be trained to detect peanuts to help prevent an allergic reaction.

“There is another family (both parents from Huber Heights and Wayne grads) who received a dog last year and are thrilled with the difference it has made in their child’s life,” said Brogan-Adams.

It is hoped that a service dog will empower Natalie with more independence and improve her quality of life.

Organizers of the fund raiser are seeking donations of items to be used in the raffle such as gift certificates, gift baskets or items to be used in a gift basket. Donations can be mailed to Heidi Landes, PO Box 340697, Beavercreek, Ohio 45434 by Sept. 25. Tickets for the event can also be obtained from Cathy Dean at 937-478-5729.

As of Sept. 14, over $9,000 has been raised towards the goal of $15,000 which includes donations made directly to 4 Paws for Ability. The donation website is:
