Polaris Chapter ABWA to meet

Sikh Society of Dayton sets open house

HUBER HEIGHTS — On the occasion of International Peace Week, the Sikh Society of Dayton, located at 2320 Harshman Road, Dayton (45424), would like to invite the public to an open house on Sunday, Sept. 13 from 10:30 a.m. to noon, followed by langar (vegetarian meal). Enjoy some refreshments while learning more about the Sikh faith and what peace means to the Sikhs.

There will be a special prayer for peace followed by discussion. Guests are invited to join in ‘langar,’ a free vegetarian meal, made by and for the community.

When entering the Sikh place of worship shoes are removed, head is covered with a scarf and attire should be conducive to being able to sit on the floor (chairs are available if needed).

Half Time USA Band Festival is Sept. 12

HUBER HEIGHTS —The Wayne Music Club will host the Half Time USA Band Festival at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. Advance tickets can be purchased at Wayne Sporting Goods or at the Wayne High School Bursar’s Office.

Friday night dinner slated

BUTLER TOWNSHIP — Marian Council K of C 3754 Friday Night Dinner of Fellowship will be held on Friday Sept. 4 from 5:30 to 7 p.m., with Rosary beginning at 5 p.m. The menu will be: grilled chicken, corn on the cob, fried fish and french fries, along with sides including salad, cole slaw and applesauce. Cost is $7 per adult, $4 for 12 & Under and $20 per family. Desserts are 50 cents while they last.

DAYTON — The Kiser High School Alumni Association Annual Picnic will be held on Sept. 12 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, located at 2801 Old Troy Pike, Dayton (45404). Cost is $5 per person. Hotdogs, sausage, brats and soda will be furnished. Please bring covered dish to share and your dinnerware.

Food pantry and free dinner offered

PHONETON —Gethsemane Fellowship will host its food pantry on Sunday mornings at 10:45 a.m. They are offering a a free dinner Wednesday nights to anyone that would like to partake in the dinner and then stay for Bible Study. The dinner starts on Sept. 2 at 5:30 p.m.

The church is located at 7045 E. State Route 40 and Brandt Pike, next to the BP gas station and five minutes from Walmart in Huber Heights. Chris Heeter is the pastor.

Band and Warriorettes fundraiser

HUBER HEIGHTS — They are back — the driveway/cement Warrior Heads, that is! This is cut from the original stencil. The Wayne Marching Band and Warriorettes are actively fundraising for their Disney trip next March. With so many kids to get to Disney one of this year’s big fundraisers is the spray-painted Warrior Head on your driveway/cement at your business, the cost is $35.

Giant Scale RC Model Aircraft Show

FAIRBORN — Visitors will see some of history’s well-known airframes at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force over Labor Day weekend, but they won’t be the ones inside the galleries. Instead, scale versions of those aircraft will fly over the museum, regaling spectators with daring aerobatics. The Giant Scale Radio-Controlled (RC) Model Aircraft Air Show is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for Sept. 4-6.
