HUBER HEIGHTS — St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church in Huber Heights will host the third annual Ed Daniel blood drive Wednesday, Aug. 26 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Community Blood Center (CBC) Bloodmobile will be at 5566 Chambersburg Road. Donors are encouraged to schedule an appointment at www.DonorTime.com or call 1-800-388-GIVE.
The blood drive is in memory of Ed Daniel, who passed away in July of 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer. Ed was known as “The Donut King” of the popular Daniel Donuts stores in Huber Heights and Fairborn. The Daniel family’s goal in sponsoring the memorial blood drive is to thank blood donors and show support for all cancer patients in need of blood product transfusions.
The blood drive comes during the final week of the CBC “Get on Board – Give Blood” summer blood drive campaign. Everyone who registers to donate will receive a free “Catch the Wave – Donate Blood” plastic water bottle. Everyone age 18 and older will also be entered in the CBC “Get on Board – Give Blood” summer blood drive drawing to win an all-expense-paid Hawaii vacation for two. You must register to donate with CBC by Friday, Aug. 28 to be included in the drawing.
The grand prize includes air travel and deluxe accommodations for eight nights at two island locations. All taxes, fees and meals are included. The vacation package also includes pre-paid activities and sight-seeing excursions, plus all ground transportation.
REACH magazine is the media sponsor and The Flowerman is the fresh flower sponsor. Eligible donors can enter the drawing a second time when they register for a second donation during the blood drive period. Official rules are available at www.givingblood.org.
Maintaining the blood supply can be challenging during the summer months. If you miss an appointment, CBC encourages you to reschedule when you are able. They especially encourage the continued support of type O-negative whole blood donors and type A/B platelet and plasma donors.
