BEAVERCREEK — For the third straight year the Wayne boys bowling team has qualified for the state tournament.
Wayne looks to defend its 2016 state title. The Warriors were state runner-up in 2015.
During the district tournament at Beaver-Vu Lanes on March 1 the Warriors placed 5th, earning the final qualifying spot to advance to state.
Freshman Theon Hill recorded the third highest score overall in the tournament with 614 total pins. Hill rolled games of 214, 233 and 167 to make the All-District Team. Only Alex Rieger, a junior for Cincinnati Oak Hills (644) and senior David Neal of Mason (635) scored higher.
Wayne scored 2687 in regulation and 985 in Baker Games for a total of 3672 pins.
Senior Patrick Schwartz recorded the next highest score for Wayne with games of 204, 172 and 182 for a 558 series. Senior Sean Martin II rolled games of 152, 175 and 195 for a 522 series. Senior Nathaniel Payton rolled two games of 199 and 183. Junior Noah Kunkel bowled a single game score of 148
The state tournament will be held Saturday, March 11 at Wayne Webb Columbus Bowl.
