FAIRFIELD — December 3rd and 4th the Wayne Warriors Bowling teams competed in The Big Blue Challenge Tournament in Fairfield. The format consisted of three regular 10 frame games and six baker games. Winner is determined by the highest total pin fall.
On Saturday, December 3rd the boys took the lanes. Head Coach Mike White led the boys to take the title. Wayne’s total pin fall was 4,377 pins and two school records were broken. They bowled a 279 in Baker Games breaking last year’s record of 278 which was set at State. Sean Martin II also broke the three game series record bowling a 276, 214, 235 for a 725 series breaking his own record set his sophomore year.
Junior Noah Kunkle rolled a 664 followed by senior Nathaniel Payton (621), senior Patrick Schwartz (574), and freshman Theon Hill (504).
On November 29 the Warriors defeated Troy 2181-2081. Payton led Wayne with a 423 followed by Hill with 397, Kunkel (381), Schwartz (323) and Kryan Cowen (306). Wayne scored a combined total of 351 in two Baker Games.
On Sunday, December 4th the girls took the lanes. Coach Dave Miller led the girls to a 3rd place finish with a total pin fall of 3,312. Senior Shelbi Craft led Wayne with 521 pins followed by senior Ryleigh Crouse (500), junior Morgan Atkinson (463), junior Sky Edwards (369), sophomore Audrie Goffinet (339) and junior Morgan Colton (155).
The Lady Warriors lost to Troy on Nov. 29 by a score of 1903-2154. Crouse was the leading scorer from both teams with a 408 while Troy’s Jenna Stone rolled a 404. Also scoring for Wayne were Craft (325), Goffinet (299), and Edwards (280). Bowling one game each were Atkinson (178) and senior Jordan Zimmick (128).
Both the boys and girls teams will compete in the Greater Western Ohio Conference Preseason Tournament on Saturday at Poelking Lanes South at 9 a.m.
