CENTERVILLE — Wayne junior Heidi Weeks qualified for the girls Division I district golf tournament by shooting a personal best round of 78 Wednesday during sectional play at Yankee Trace.
Weeks tied Amanda Hayes of Centerville and Hallie Murph of Miamisburg with a 78 for the fifth lowest score overall in the sectional tournament. Weeks had the lowest qualifying round of all individuals advancing to district.
Overall the Lady Warriors all shot personal best scores to place sixth overall in the 14 team field. Juniors Jennifer Hammond shot 95, Lauren Daily 109 and Gloria Boyer 126. The sixth place finish was Wayne’s best showing in sectional play since girls golf was brought back as a varsity sport in 2009.
Weeks will compete in the district tournament on Tuesday, October 11 at Glenview Golf Course located at 10965 Springfield Pike, Cincinnati.
Only the top four teams and top four individuals with the lowest scores not on a qualifying team advanced to district. Centerville took first place with score of 296 led by sophomore Marissa Wenzler with a tournament best score of 70. Teammate Kayla Ramsey, also a sophomore, had the second best score overall in the tourney with a 71.
Miamisburg finished with 336 to place second, with Northmont third at 386 and Oakwood fourth with 390.
Sophomore Jada Garland of Greenville shot the second best individual qualifying round with an 87. Beavercreek freshman Sarah O’Conner won in a playoff to finish with an 89. Junior Loren Morland of Stivers also won in a playoff to qualify with an 89.
Weeks will tee off at 10:50 a.m. Tuesday on the East Course at Glenview Golf Course. Teams tee off at 9 a.m. on both the East and South courses. Individual starting holes and pairings may change due to the qualifiers.
