Wayne bowling teams qualify for state

Junior Shelbi Craft bowled a 673 series at the district tournament at Beaver Vu Bowl on February 24 to earn 2nd place All-Tournament.

BEAVERCREEK — The bowling district tournament was held at Beaver Vu Lanes on Wednesday, Feb. 24 for girls and Thursday, Feb. 25 for boys teams. District consists of three individual games for five team members (or combo) and six baker games.

The Wayne girls placed fourth to qualify for the state tournament. Leading the day for the Warriors was Shelbi Craft with games of 215, 213, & 245 for a 673 series. This series was good enough to earn Craft a second place All-Tournament award.

Next was Brittany Hawley rolling games of 225, 207, & 186 for a 618 series.

The Lady Warriors posted individual totals of 2849 and Baker games total of 1155 for an overall total of 4004.

The girls made school history by qualifying for state for the third consecutive year.

The boys team qualified for state by placing fifth narrowly edging out Beavercreek High School by one pin. This is the first time in school history that the boys have gone to state in back to back years.

Leading Wayne was Bryan Bir with games of 247, 173, & 237 for a 657 series. Next was Sean Martin II with games of 227, 216, & 213 for a 656 series. Brandon Beck bowled games of 257, 190, & 192 for a 639 series. Noah Kunkel posted games of 223, 223, & 187 for a 633 series. Patrick Schwartz posted games of 192, 247, and 169 for a 608 series.

The Warriors had an individual score total of 3193. Baker games were a combo of all team members totaling 1194 giving Wayne an overall total of 4387.

The state tournament takes place at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl, 3224 S. High Street, Columbus. Division I boys will compete on Friday, March 4 and the Division I girls on Saturday, March 5. Qualifying rounds begin at 10:30 a.m. and concludes at approximately 2:30 p.m. Championship round begins at 3:45 p.m.

State qualifying coaches and bowlers, please enter Wayne Webb’s Bowling Center on the East side (low end). Coaches please pay attention to the pass list policy in regard to the number of coaches receiving complimentary admission.

School buses should drop students off at Wayne Webb’s Bowling Center and park at Judah Tabernacle Church, 3176 S. High Street, just north of Wayne Webb’s Bowling Center.

No food made or purchased outside the bowling center is permitted. Please do not bring food of any type into the premises. Bags will be checked upon entry.
