Wayne bowlers compete in two tournaments

CENTERVILLE — Over the weekend the Wayne bowling teams competed in two tournaments: the Greater Western Ohio Conference Preseason Tournament Saturday at Poelking Lanes South and Sunday in the Nordonia Knights Classic in Bedford.

Saturday, the Wayne girls placed 6th in the GWOC Preseason Tourney with 3375 total pins. Beavercreek took 1st place with 3,950 pins.

Wayne’s Shelbi Craft led the Lady Warriors in scoring to place 6th making the GWOC All-Tournament team with scores of 207, 186, and 200 for a 593 series.

The Wayne boys team also finished in 6th place with 3,947 total pins. Patrick Schwartz led the Warriors with scores of 193, 184, and 202 for a 579 series.

On Sunday, December 11 at the Nordonia Knights Classic in Bedford, the girls finished in 6th place. Ryleigh Crouse led Wayne and came in 4th place overall with scores of 193, 205, 194 for a 592 series.

The boys team, defending state champions in Division I, got upset by Nordonia in the finals to finish in 2nd place. Patrick Schwartz came in 4th place overall to lead Wayne with scores of 213, 244, 243 for a 700 series.

The Wayne bowling teams also competed in their first GWOC conference match on Thursday, December 8 against Lebanon. Both the varsity girls and boys won.

The boys team won 2472-2458. Schwartz led Wayne with scores of 259 and 180 for a 439 series followed by Sean Martin II with scores of 192 and 218 for a 410 series. Noah Kunkel rolled games of 207 and 201 for a 408, while Nathaniel Payton rolled a 183 and 222 for a 405 and Theon Hill scored 218 and 184 for a 402.

The Lady Warriors defeated Lebanon 1977-1890. Ryleigh Crouse led the team with games of 179 and 215 for a 394 series. Morgan Atkinson scored 205 and 172 for a total of 377. Shelbi Craft rolled games of 149 and 177 for a 326. Audrie Goffinet scored 118 and 179 for a total of 297 and Sky Edwards posted 155 and 104 for a 259.
