CLAYTON — The Wayne boys soccer team lost 3-0 Monday to Centerville in the OHSAA Division I Sectional Final at Northmont High School.

The Elks got off to a quick start as Dylan Myers found the back of the net early in the game to give them a 1-0 lead. Matthew Scarpino doubled that lead to 2-0 a few minutes later and Trey Schultz made it 3-0 with 20 minutes left in the first half. Goaltenders Andrew Sucato and Jonathan Huelsman combined to blank the Warriors as the Elks punched their ticket to Thursday’s district final against their nemesis from Cincinnati, the Mason Comets. Mason advanced by virtue of a 3-0 win over Hamilton last night at Lakota East High School.

“This is a very good Centerville team,” said Wayne Coach Dennis Snider. “They’ve got a lot of good players that play a lot of high level soccer during the off season and they show up with their skill and technical knowledge and all of that. That’s a good team.”

Something that didn’t show in the score was junior goalkeeper Simon Oberkrom had a decent game. He made some tough saves in the second half to keep the score at 3-0.

“Oberkrom is a junior, and this is his first year starting. He was a backup last year. He’s really good. He can help us out in the future,” Snider added.

The Elks and Comets will decide the district championship on Thursday night at Bellbrook High School. Opening kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
