TROY — Lucas Houk became the first Wayne cross country runner in over 20 years to advance to the state championship. Lucas finished 20th overall at the Regional Championship held on Saturday at Troy to take the last qualifying spot. He finished with a time of 16:39 and beat the 21st place runner by only 0.03 seconds.

“Despite not having his best race of the season, Lucas did what he needed to move on,” said coach Todd Anderson. “The cold conditions definitely got to him, but he had a strong finish to propel him to that 20th position.”

Houk will run at the state Championship at 3 p.m. on Saturday at National Trail Raceway in Hebron.
