BUTLER TWP. — Over 400 high school athletes from all across the area descended on Christian Life Center on Sunday evening to hear a message about leadership.

Organized by Vandalia resident and orthopedic surgeon James Klosterman and his wife Carla, the Fall Leadership Summit is in its third year.

Speakers included Dunbar High School graduate and two-time NBA champion Norris Cole, former Ohio State standout Donnie Evege, and artist Jerad Emerson. Former Wayne Warrior standout and current Ohio State Buckeye Robert “BB” Landers appeared on video.

Klosterman said the idea behind the gathering is to remind young athletes of the impression – good and bad – they can leave on those around them.

“What are you doing with the platform you have?” asked Klosterman. “As an athlete, like it or not, people follow your lead. Every time you interact with another person, you have influence.”

That influence can be good or bad.

“Use your platform for something bigger than yourself,” said Klosterman. “The men your are hearing from tonight once sat in seats similar to what you sit in today. Each had a different path, a different story, but each has a platform, and they are here to intentionally impact you.”

“What a life changing event,” said Wayne head coach Jay Minton. “Any young person should have gotten some nuggets that will be life changing. Dr. Klosterman is changing young people’s lives one at a time. I am looking forward to see how this grows next year and years to come.”

Klosterman plans to continue holding the summit each fall and hopes to double attendance in coming years.
