Wayne Spikers garner post season awards

HUBER HEIGHTS — The Wayne volleyball team,coming off of their best year in at least a decade, had several girls earn post season recognition.

Senior outside hitter Akaila Howard earned second team All GWOC honors, District 15 Coach’s Association Honorable Mention status and will represent Wayne in the District 15 Senior All Star Game.

Howard has been Wayne’s leading hitter for the past three years. This year she was ninth in GWOC with 222 kills, and ninth with 2.92 kills/set, Wayne’s leading hitter in both categories. She served at a .921 percent clip, accumulated 27 service aces and had 141 digs. She finished her Wayne career with over 400 kills. She received votes for first team before earning her second team spot

Sophomore DS/L Sydney Herzer earned Honorable Mention All GWOC and also Honorable Mention District 15 Coach’s Association recognition. She received votes as a second team All GWOC Candidate and District 15 candidate before and ultimately achieving Honorable Mention in both spots.

Herzer was the newcomer to the group of three passers this year. She led Wayne with 289 digs, 3.91 digs/set, 988 passing points and a 2.33 passer rating, Wayne’s leading passer in all categories.. She served at a .922 clip and accumulated 24 aces.

Maya Dunson received Honorable Mention All GWOC Central recognition. She led Wayne with 303 assists and added 81 kills, 19 blocks and also had 36 aces on the season.
