BROOKVILLE — The boys cross country team placed third out of 12 teams at the Brookville Invitational on Saturday.
The boys were led by Jared Wamsley, who placed second overall (17:09), followed closely by Jacob Miller who was fifth (17:29). Freshmen Lucas Houk (18:15) and Bobby Cole (18:30) and sophomore Danny Cole (19:43) rounded out the scoring.
“Lucas Houk had the most impressive run of the meet,” said Coach Todd Anderson. “He took off over 30 seconds from his old personal best, placing 19th overall.”
Runners who also placed high at the meet were Alex Showers (20:01), Travis Colton (20:19) and Brian Mackey (20:40).
“The boys team is continuously improving every single meet,” said Anderson. “It is nice seeing the team earn some high team places in these invitationals, all of our hard work is paying off.”
The girls team finished eighth overall. Kristen Hoelscher (24:22), Natalie Austin (24:26), Jackie Thomas (25:30), Abigail Kerestes (28:45) and Mikki Holmes (30:19) were the top finishers for the team.
“Just like the boys, the girls team is improving every meet,” said Anderson. “The top three girls have been placing high at the last couple of meets and the team average as decreased as well. I look for that trend to continue.”
The cross county team will continue their season at the Alliance Invitational on Saturday at MVCTC.
