FAIRBORN — The Wayne girls soccer team dropped to 2-1 following a 1-0 shutout loss to host Fairborn Wednesday.
“Their team did a nice job of packing it in and we had trouble executing and finding the back of the net,” said Wayne coach Vic Trapani.
Wayne out shot Fairborn 10-2, but Dani Dierker scored the winning goal with 36 minutes left in the contest. Wayne was trying to clear the ball when it ricocheted off one of Wayne’s players and Dierker broke in behind them with a breakaway.
This was the first goal given up by the Wayne defense as the locals opened the season with a 3-0 victory against Xenia and a 1-0 victory at Miamisburg.
“They’re playing well,” said Trapani. “We’ve just got to find a way to transition from the defense and get into the attack a little bit better. So our defense is doing a good job, led by captain Madison Doss.”
Wayne is slated to travel to Shawnee on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
