HUBER HEIGHTS — The Wayne Cross Country team is looking to make a big impact in the area this upcoming season. The team had a successful summer conditioning and should continue their improvement from last season, according to Wayne cross country coach Todd Anderson.

The boys team returns a solid group of runners and add several strong newcomers who could could provide some additional support for the team.

The boys are led by senior Jared Wamsley who looks to have a break-out season.

“Jared has been one of the hardest workers the last several years and I look for all that to pay off this season,” said Anderson. “I bet he will be one of the best runners in the area this year.”

Junior Jacob Miller looks to follow and could be a big factor as well, according to Anderson.

“Jacob has been running a lot this summer as well and he should see some big strides in his race times,” said Anderson.

After Miller, the team will have many contenders to fill out the varsity team. The junior trio of Travis Colton, Treven Cade and Brian Mackey all look to break into that position.

“These three are all pushing each other to improve and will be a big part of the team,” said Anderson.

Sophomores Daniel Cole, Noah McGeorge, Jordan Sam and Jacob Reinhart are all returning for their second season and want to challenge for those varsity positions with newcomer Kareen Taylor, according to Anderson.

Rounding out the team are freshmen Robert Cole, Lucas Houk, Alex Showers, Harley Marcum, Vincent Statzer, and JoMarre Young.

“This is one of the strongest freshman groups we have had recently,” said Anderson. “Several of them are coming in with a lot of running experience and will challenge the upperclassmen for their positions.”

“There will be some strong competition on the team to get on the varsity squad from all of these runners,” said Anderson. “This could make things very interesting this season as I see the varsity squad changing throughout the season.”

The cross country team will begin their season at the OHSAA PreSeason Invitational at National Trail Raceway in Hebron on Saturday.
