Carey and McCollum join Weisenborn administration

Susan Gunnell - Superintendent, Huber Heights City Schools

When the 2015 – 2016 school year begins, there will be two new faces in the front office at Weisenborn Junior High School. Mr. Brent Carey is the new principal at Weisenborn and Mr. Justin McCollum is the new assistant principal.

Mr. Carey comes to Huber Heights with over 21 years of experience in the field of education, most recently as a principal in the Wilmington City School District. He is a graduate of Miami University where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in social studies education. Mr. Carey also attended the University of Dayton earning his Master’s Degree in Educational Administration as well as his principal’s certification. In addition to his tenure as a principal, Mr. Carey has also been a high school assistant principal, a junior high assistant principal, a junior high athletic director, and a social studies teacher. As the principal at Weisenborn, Mr. Carey will work with the staff, students, parents, and community members to improve student achievement.

Mr. McCollum is not a new face to Huber Heights’ staff and students. However, he is new to the role of assistant principal at Weisenborn. Mr. McCollum is a 2000 graduate of Wayne High School. He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in science education from Miami University and his Master’s in Educational Leadership from the University of Dayton. Mr. McCollum taught in both Fairborn and Valley View. He also taught at Wayne High School from 2009 – 2014. In addition to his teaching responsibilities at Wayne, Mr. McCollum also served as the Science Department Head and the Dean of Discipline for the Freshman Academy.

I am confident that the administrative team of Mr. Brent Carey and Mr. Justin McCollum will positively impact the school climate and student achievement at Weisenborn Junior High School. I know that the Weisenborn staff, students, and parents will welcome Mr. Carey and Mr. McCollum to their new positions and to Weisenborn. As always, if you have questions about our schools, please contact me at the Administrative Offices (237-6300) or through e-mail at Susan.Gunnell@huberheightscityschools.org.
