Ohio Graduation Test (OGT) looming for Wayne students

Susan Gunnell - Superintendent, Huber Heights City Schools

This month Wayne High School students planning to graduate in 2016 or 2017 and have not passed all sections of the Ohio Graduation Test (OGT) need to take note of the dates for the five sections of this important test. Passage of all five sections of the OGT is a graduation requirement for the Class of 2016 and the Class of 2017.

The schedule for the OGT is as follows: Monday, March 7 – Reading; Tuesday, March 8 – Math; Wednesday, March 9 – Writing; Thursday, March 10 – Science; and Friday, March 11 – Social Studies. Make-up testing for the OGT will occur the week of March 14 – 18. Wayne will operate on a regular school day schedule during OGT week. This means all students at Wayne High School will report at their regular time during the week of March 7.

We are asking all parents of students who are required to take the OGT to be aware of the test dates and make every effort to ensure their son or daughter is at school ready to take this important test. If you have any questions about the OGT, please contact your child’s guidance counselor.

Beginning with the Class of 2018 (this year’s current sophomores) graduation requirements change. In addition to earning the required credits, the most common path to graduation will involve students achieving a cumulative passing score of 18 points using seven end-of-course state tests. To ensure students are well rounded, they must earn points in math, points in English and points in science and social studies. End-of-course exams will be given in Algebra I and Geometry, American History and American Government, and English I and English II. The Biology exam is for first year ninth graders currently enrolled in Biology.

For study materials for each section of the OGT, parents and students may visit the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) website. Additional information on changes in the graduation requirements is also available from your child’s guidance counselor or the ODE website. As always, if you have questions about our schools, please contact me at the Administrative Offices (237-6300) or through e-mail at Susan.Gunnell@huberheightscityschools.org.
