From the A.D.’s desk: What’s up at Wayne

I wanted to share some really exciting things that are going on here in Wayne Athletics. First, our new stadium scoreboard is up and it is about ready to be tested. Just a few final connections by electricians and we will begin the training process. If you have not seen it, we think you will love it. There are still some open spots for sponsors if you would like to be involved in the inaugural season of the new scoreboard.

The EWP program will hold their Second Annual 5K Walk/Run event on July 25 here at Wayne High School. Last year, this event was one of the most productive events we had all year. This year looks to be even better. If you would like to participate, then please log onto http://speedy-feet.com/race-entry.php?id=1328 and be part of something really special.

The EWP program continues to grow and solidify their calling here at Huber Heights City Schools. This group was formed in order to help offset the cost of participation fees in our district. They have done an outstanding job while raising somewhere in the amount of $80,000 over the last two years.

Now we are ready to take the next step in this development of our Champions Club. Each sport will have a sport rep that will be able to connect with our athletic parents in order to get them involved and solidify the support that our young people need and to provide some of the best experiences that a young person could ever wish for during their high school career.

We will also be holding our Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on July 25 at 6 p.m. Please go to Waynewarriorathletics.com for more information.

The last exciting thing that I would like to share is that we will be able to provide the opportunity to have our student athletes (average 3.14 overall) a cardiac screening through a program called mCORE. What a great opportunity to have this screening done in order to rule out any cardiac conditions. While here at Wayne High School, we have seen two young men that left us way too early and in both cases, a screening may have helped to diagnose their conditions.

I would like to thank Pam Bitsko for bringing this program to our attention. We will be having a meeting in mid-July and our hope is that Ms. Bitsko will be able to talk to both the parents and student athletes of all sports. Please look for the day and time of the meeting. In the meantime, if you would like to sign up for this screening, then go to mcoreathletes.com and sign up. The screening will be held here at Wayne on July 28. Have a great week and Go Warriors!
