From the A.D.’s desk: Backyard Blitz

Jay Minton - Wayne HS Athletics Director

Our first game will be at home and it will be under a promotion called “The Backyard Blitz.” I wanted to explain how and what this actually is so our fans would know what we are hosting.

This is one of those opportunities that we have always wanted to be involved in. This is much like when we host state tournament games in various sports for the Ohio High School Athletic Association. By having the event here, it helps so we do not have to travel, also we know our first game is always at home and it brings income into our community.

With this being only the second year, it will take a few years to build it up. If you remember when the “Flyin to the Hoop” event in Kettering got started, it began slow, but picked up steam fast as it was supported by not only the Kettering Community, but the whole Miami Valley. Now it is the second largest high school basketball event in the country. The person that is responsible for developing that event is the same one that is developing The Backyard Blitz.

Here are a couple of points you need to know. If you are a season ticket holder, your ticket is good for this game and because our game is at 6 p.m., you will get to sit in your seat for the game. Also, you are welcome to stay for game two.

We will still be charging for parking, $2 a car and you should be able to get a good spot due to us being the first game at 6 p.m. All tickets at the gate and presale are $10. The advantage of buying your tickets early come in two benefits, one the school keeps a portion of the presale and two, you don’t have to stand in line.

With this being a beautiful night, both games should be a sellout. Tickets can be purchased at the high school or at Wayne Sporting Goods.

We hope that you enjoy and support this event and appreciate all the benefits that it brings to our school and community. Let’s show everyone that our stadium is definitely one of the most exciting places to play in the state of Ohio… so get ready, cause our players are ready and we hear the train coming…All Aboard the Wayne Train!

Hope to see you there! Go Wayne!
