Air Force Marathon seeks volunteers

WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE — The Air Force Marathon is searching for 2,300 volunteers to work the race.

Volunteer registration opened May 1 and to date the marathon has approximately half the volunteers required to manage the race.

“The response from volunteers has been great,” said Jeanette Monaghan, volunteer coordinator. “But there are still a few areas where we could really use some help.”

Monaghan is also looking for musicians and performers to provide course entertainment for the runners.

“These volunteers help make our course fun for the runners. In the past, we have had a variety of DJs and bands.” she said.

Volunteer registration closes on August 31 so anyone interested in helping out should register soon to ensure they get their preferred assignment. All of the open positions are listed on the marathon’s website, www.usafmarathon.com, and volunteers can register online there.

All volunteers will receive a free Air Force Marathon volunteer T-shirt.

The Air Force Marathon, presented by Northrop Grumman, USAA and Boeing, will be held Saturday, September 19. The Sports & Fitness Expo is held at Wright State University’s Nutter Center and will be Thursday, September 17, and Friday, September18.
