HUBER HEIGHTS — The Miami Valley Bulk Smuggling Task Force arrested two suspects on drug-related charges in Huber Heights last week.
Jose Alfonso Rios of Phoenix, Arizona and Jesus Vidal Portillo from Sinaloa, Mexico are both currently incarcerated in the Montgomery County jail.
According to a press release, the Task Force arrested the men after observing “criminal indicators” that led officers to believe a drug-related offense was occurring. The men were stopped on State Route 202 near I-70.
Investigators found the men in possession of two kilograms of Fentanyl with an estimated street value of $200,000.
Montgomery County Sheriff Phil Plummer said the arrest was the latest in the battle against illegal drugs.
“This is another example of the ongoing battle against drug cartels bringing in illegal drugs into our communities,” Plummer said. “We recognize collaboration through federal, state, and local partnerships are necessary to have a significant impact on the criminal organizations in Montgomery County and the Miami Valley.”
The Miami Valley Bulk Smuggling Task Force, which is part of the Ohio Attorney General’s Ohio Organized Crime Investigations Commission, is made up of officers from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Miami Township Police Department, Ohio State Patrol, Montgomery County RANGE Task Force, Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Homeland Security, Drug Enforcement Agency, and the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office.
