Sixth Grade Red paints fire hydrants

HUBER HEIGHTS — Each year the water department in Huber Heights slates approximately 300 hydrants for painting throughout the City and partners with a local organization to participate. In exchange for donating their time to paint the hydrants, SUEZ Water of the Huber Heights Water Department, provides all the supplies such as paint, wire and paint brushes, safety vests, safety training and instructions on properly painting the hydrants. In addition, SUEZ Water makes a $1000 donation to the organization.

This year, HHYFC’s Sixth Grade Red Football Team has taken on the hydrant painting challenge. There was a great turn out of both parents and kids to participate in the safety and instructional training and they all seemed eager to begin! Sunday, September 10th was their first day of painting and they completed 60 hydrants. They will continue for the next few weeks (between football games) until they have completed the 2017 painting schedule. If you see them in your neighborhood, please give them a shout out!

“We love it when a group like HHYFC’s Sixth Grade Red Football team participates. This gives them an opportunity to practice their listening skills during training, then put that training to work in the real world. At the same time, they get to show their community spirit, taking pride in their work lets them learn a bit about work ethic,” said Pam Whited, SUEZ Water Huber Heights Project Manager.

SUEZ Water started this program as a pilot in 2008, and in 2017 it still seems to be a sucess. It’s been a great way for SUEZ Water to support different organizations throughout the community.

Some of the past participants include Campfire USA, Wayne Softball Team, Future Farmers of America, Huber Heights City Schools Administrative Staff and Brick City Blast Baseball. It’s also been a great way for SUEZ Water to support different groupls throughout the community.
