Wayne honors students committing to military

15 Wayne High School students were honored for their commitment to to the U.S. Military during Military Signing Day on May 8.

HUBER HEIGHTS — Wayne High School honored members of the class of 2018 who are signing a commitment to enter branches of the U.S. Military on May 8.

A color guard comprising of Sgt. Tory Elrich (Ohio Army National Guard). SSgt. Aaron Warman (Army), QM1 Jeff Welbaum (Navy), Sgt. Matthew Auddino (Marines) and Col. Carl Peirolo (Retired Air Force) presented the colors.

Signees were given a ceremonial oath of office.

Wayne graduates committing to the military were:

Matt Campbell – Marines

Purpose for joining the Military:

I want to protect and serve the United States. Also, I want to become the first Marine in my family.

What are you looking forward to most?

Just having the title as “US Marine”

What are your career goals during and after your time in your particular branch of service?

I want to go to college and SRT/HVT school

Sean Fair – Navy

Purpose for joining the military:

I have always felt the need to serve my country

What are you looking forward to least?

The boot camp

What are you looking forward to most?

Overseas deployment and all of the different experiences that come with being in the Navy.

What are you career goals during and after your time in your particular branch of service?

I want to make the highest rank possible during my career and after, I want to be able to support my family.

Vanessa Fulton – Navy ROTC (OSU)

Purpose for joining the military:

Joining the military is a family tradition but I also want to go to college. My main purpose is to serve my country.

What are you looking forward to least?

Leaving home makes it hard.

What are your career goals during and after your time in your particular branch of service?

During my term, I want to make the money but really I want to be a pilot. After, I’m unsure of what I want to do.

William Gladney – Army

Purpose in joining the military:

I decided to join the military to better myself and to serve my country.

What are you looking forward to least?

The waking up early is my least interest

What are your career goals during and after your time in your particular branch of service?

Mainly to become a detective or RN and with this training, I will have the best chance at doing and fulfilling my dreams.

Katelyn Hill – Army

Purpose for joining the Military:

I joined the Military because I’ve always known I wanted to be a part of the U.S. Military. I also know I want to serve my country and make a difference. The military also has great benefits which I think will help me out a lot.

What are you looking forward to least?

Boot camp and having to be away from my family.

What are you looking forward to most?

Traveling all over the world and meeting new people.

What are your career goals during and after your time in your particular branch of service?

I want to go to college while in the military to become a dentist.

Diamond Jones – Army

Purpose for joining the Military:

To serve for my country and not be in debt at a young age.

What are you looking forward to least?

Kinda nervous about basic training.

What are you looking forward to most?

Getting the chance to travel and meet new people.

What are your career goals during and after your time in your particular branch of service?

Diving into culinary then experience college life after.

Isaac Kinstle – Army

Purpose for joining the Military:

I joined the military to make my family proud, to better myself, and to help others.

What are you looking forward to least?

There really isn’t anything I’m not looking forward to in my military service.

What are you looking forward to most?

Being able to help in whatever way I can.

What are your career goals during and after your time in your particular branch of service?

To be the best that I can be and I want to be able to retire from the Army.

Caitlin Loudiy – Army

Purpose for joining the Military:

I want to serve my country, have honor and discipline. Plus, my older brother was unable to join and he inspired me.

What are you looking forward to least?

Leaving my friends and family

What are you looking forward to most?

Traveling and making unbreakable bonds with my service men and women

What are your career goals during and after your time in your particular branch of service?

I want to be an MP and then dog handler and after I want to work with wild animals that are in need

Katie Martin – Army

Purpose for joining the Military:

It was always something I considered. I wasn’t positive what I wanted to do that’s why I felt the military to be the best for me along with the extremely good benefits it offers. It gives me extreme pride and I know it’s making my family and friends proud.

What are you looking forward to least?

Leaving my family and friends behind, and going into a new environment knowing no one. Also, basic training, I know that it’s going to be hard and long.

What are you looking forward to most?

The experience in all. Being in new places and meeting new people. I’m excited about the training I’m going to receive and the person I will be after going through all of it.

What are your career goals during and after your time in your particular branch of service?

Going in my job being a 68Q (pharmacy specialist) I am hoping to figure out if that’s what I want to continue with. I know I want to go back to school, I just have decided for what yet.

Jacob Miller – Army National Guard

Purpose for joining the military:

I’m mainly joining for the money

What are you looking forward to least?

Having to shave my head

What are your career goals during and after your time in your particular branch of service?

Medical school to being a surgeon

Briana Pachin – Marines

Purpose for joining the Military:

I chose to join the Marine Corps. to make a difference for women

What are you looking forward to most?

Serving my country and becoming one of the elites

What are your career goals during and after your time in your particular branch of service?

I want to become a cop after I serve.

Alissa Salyers – Army National Guard

Purpose for joining the military:

This is an amazing opportunity, it provides full paid tuition. Also, the love I have for my country is strong.

What are you looking forward to least?

Sacrificing time away from the ones I love.

What are your career goals during and after your time in your particular branch of service?

To live the Army values and enjoy my time in the Army. Also, I want to apply my skills to being a Civilian Police Officer.

Keith Shock – Army

Purpose for joining the Military:

I chose to join because I want to make a difference

What are you looking forward to least?

I’m looking forward to everything

What are your career goals during and after your time in your particular branch of service?

Earning my Tabs Ranger and Special Forces

Dylan Tschirhart – Army

Purpose for joining the military:

I didn’t want to go to college and be in debt all my life, I want to travel the world. It felt like it was the best choice for me.

What are you looking forward to least?

I won’t like being away from my family

What are your career goals during and after your time in your particular branch of service?

During, one of my main goals is that within the next 2-3 years I want to own a new Dodge Challenger, then save money so that when I’m done serving, I’ll be able to afford a house in South Carolina or Florida. When I’m out, my goal is to go to college to get a degree in childhood education.

Logan Wang- Marines

Purpose in joining the Military:

Joining the Military has been something that I’ve wanted to do since I was a child. I want to protect the innocent people and the world.

What are you looking forward to least?

I’m looking forward to everything

What are you looking forward to the most?

Being able to earn the title of being a Marine

What are your career goals during and after your time in your particular branch of service?

I plan to go to college for psychology during my service and join the Special Reaction Team (SRT). After I serve, I plan on being a forensic psychologist and also work with people that have PTSD.
