HUBER HEIGHTS — Twelve students competed in the Huber Heights City Schools District Spelling Bee on Thursday, January 12, 2017. At the end of nine rounds, Monticello fourth grader Lillian Creeger emerged as the winner, with Valley Forge’s sixth grade student Tyler Norris as the runner-up.
School spelling bees were held at all five HHCS elementary schools and Weisenborn Junior High in November and December as qualifying rounds for the district spelling bee. Building winners were: Enna Eastman and Eric Butler, Charles Huber; Laurence McCorkle and Lillian Creeger, Monticello; Kai Pacheco and Shane Storaci, Rushmore; Tyler Norris and Ziya Patel, Valley Forge; Zed Cusick and Ethan Jones, Wright Brothers; Michael Riggs and Julia Norris, Weisenborn.
JW Rucker, eighth grade student at Weisenborn, served as host for the District Bee. The pronouncer was Mr. Don Pugh. Mrs. Gina Helmick, HHCS Treasurer, Ms. Beth Zugelder, HHCS Director of Special Services, and Mr. Derrick Williams, HHCS Director of Human Resources served as judges. The “Spelling Bee,” Curt Hefner, School Psychologist, kept track of each round. Students were awarded participation certificates and plaques by the Superintendent of Huber Heights City Schools, Mrs. Susan Gunnell.
