DAYTON — Prosecuting Attorney Mat Heck, Jr. announced today that Dionte R. Evans, 23, of Huber Heights, was sentenced to 15 years to life in the penitentiary for the death of his girlfriend’s 21 month old son, Keyontae R. Ellis‐Bell, inside the Huber Heights apartment they shared.
On Wednesday, April 8, 2015, the mother of the victim called 911 to report that her son was not breathing. EMTs responded and determined the child was deceased. Huber Heights Police detectives began their investigation and it was determined the defendant was left alone to care for the victim while the victim’s mother was at work. When the victim’s mother came home from work she immediately called 911. Further investigation determined the defendant caused the child victim’s death. The Coroner determined the child died as a result of blunt force trauma.
On May 25, 2016, a jury found the defendant guilty of Murder, Involuntary Manslaughter, and Endangering Children.
Prosecutor Heck continued, “The death of a defenseless 21 month‐old child at the hands of this defendant is inexcusable. Parents need to be cautious when deciding on who they trust to care for their children.”
