DAYTON — A Montgomery County jury has found a Huber Heights man has been found guilty of causing the death of his girlfriend’s 21-month old child in April, 2015.
Dionte R. Evans, 22, would found guilty of one count of murder, one count of involuntary manslaughter, and two counts of endangering children. The murder charge came from being a proximate result of committing the endangering children offenses.
On Wednesday, April 8, 2015, the mother of the victim called 911 to report that her son was not breathing. EMTs responded and determined the child was deceased. Huber Heights Police detectives began their investigation and it was determined the defendant was left alone to care for the victim while the victim’s mother was at work. When the victim’s mother came home from work she immediately called 911.
Further investigation determined the defendant caused the child victim’s death. The Coroner determined the child died as a result of blunt force trauma.
“This tragic and senseless death of a defenseless 21 month‐old child at the hands of his caregiver is appalling,” said Montgomery County Prosecuting Attorney Mat Heck, Jr. “Parents need to be cautious when deciding who to trust to care for their children.”
Evans’ is incarcerated in the Montgomery County Jail and will await sentencing by Judge Micheal W. Krumholtz on June 27 at 1 p.m.
Jail records also indicate that Evans is being held on a detainer for the Illinois Department of Corrections.
