HUBER HEIGHTS — Huber Heights Mayor Tom McMasters has announced that he is seeking further applications for the Ward 5 City Council vacancy. The announcement was made by press release Thursday afternoon.

The release does not say why the application process has been re-opened and McMasters was not able to be reached Thursday afternoon.

The announcement comes on the heels of a contentious City Council meeting on Feb. 22 in which the council failed to gain enough votes to appoint any of the three candidates – Eva Newby, Michael Urig, and Jerry Wamsley – to the vacancy created by the resignation of Tracy Dudley.

Dudley resigned the seat in January.

By not being able to reach concencus, the Huber Heights City Charter gives McMasters the authority to appoint a new member.

During the February Council meeting, Member Ed Lyons accused the Council of being sexist and racist for not appointing Newby to fill the seat. McMasters called on Lyons to resign.

Those interested in applying for the vacancy are asked to
